Hi,
Since AOL dropped its Usenet access, I have been looking into other
Usenet services (particularly ones that allow access to binary groups).
Any suggestions for readers/services that are relatively cheap and can
be used even with AOL being my ISP? Help greatly appreciated. I've
been away for awhile and want to get back into the swing of things
(Google sucks!).

I would like to find a free one. (for binaries) Suggestions?
I sure miss remarq.com.
I can't get OE to work on the puter for some reason. I have MSN dial up
on it. I currently just use the old webtv. I forward any pics I want
to the puter. But sometimes webtv misses posts and rentention is
horrible.
Well, it's free at least with the msn. mes.

Looking around on the net, I stumbled across Airnews and Supernews.
Any input on those two? If they are any good, which pricing plan
should I sign up for since I'm using AOL dial-up?

NewsHosting.com. Unlimited downloads and going to 6 weeks retention
for $14.95 a month. Well worth it.

If you are connecting over a dial-up connection your speed may limit you a bit
in the amount of data you can retrieve. I use the Newsguy service
(http://newsguy.com) and they have services that provide download levels as low
as 3 GB per month and up to 30 GB per month, depending on what you need. I think
they're still offering a 2 day trial if you wanted to test them out first.

Hey Darth,

If you have an opportunity you may want to give us a try (NewsGuy.Com)

We've been providing newsgroup services since 1992, and had a number of
displaced AOL customers join our site after AOL dropped their newsgroups.

As an extra bonus to AOL customers, we add a free month of service to any
NewsGuy account that they purchase. We have newsgroup-only accounts for as low
as $4/month, and an All-In-One account that includes unlimited Internet access,
newsgroups and 2 email boxes for $9.95/month or $79.95/year.

If you're remotely interested, you can take us for a free test spin with our 2
day trial accounts...

http://newsguy.com/overview.htm

Hope the info helps and if you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line.

Best regards,
***@newsguy.com

Stay as far away from Newsguy as possible. Especially Bob.

Only 2 choices IMO.
APN (resold Supernews, but cheaper) and Astranews.
APN for d/l, Astranews for posting (because it has the shortest u/l logs -
something most won't even admit to having, but they DO).
APN has the most awesome retention PERIOD.
Some groups may be better on Giganews because all are 50days, but that'll
only beat APN out on the few "slush" groups that have lower retentions
because of the volume.
Mostly you're talking 90-110 days for BINARY groups!
300-400days for text.
Near 100% completion, huge group selection and groups added by request no
questions asked, as long as they have a control msg. filed.
Even if there isn't, sometimes you can just do it yourself and then
they'll care that one too.

I researched the shit out of this about 6mo's ago, so I'm VERY confident
the above info is pretty much carved in stone :)
